Students from the Department of Political Science and International Affairs (PSIA) and the Department of Education at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the University of Balamand (UOB) have successfully completed an 18-hour training program in mediation. The sessions took place on June 16, 23, and 30, 2025, at the PSIA Department, located at the Nahyan Centre.

The training, titled “Initiation à la Médiation”, was organized by the PSIA Department in partnership with the Centre Professionnel de Médiation at Saint Joseph University (USJ), and the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) – Middle East. It focused on teaching students key mediation techniques through practical exercises, interactive case studies, and role-play simulations. The students were introduced to the various stages of mediation sessions, whilst being briefed on the important role emotions and value-systems play in this context.

Led by Maitre (or Attorney) Zeina Husseini Majzoub, one of Lebanon’s most experienced mediators, the program introduced students to the principles of mediation and emphasized its consensual nature. Unlike traditional conflict resolution methods, which often result in a winner-loser situation, mediation aims to assist parties to a conflict in finding win-win solutions.

This initiative reflects UOB’s commitment to equipping students with practical tools for navigating today’s increasingly complex and divided world.
