The Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences Hosts DiaLEB-National Diabetes Organization for a Diabetes Awareness Event

The Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences hosted DiaLEB-National Diabetes Organization, a non-governmental organization dedicated to diabetes education and prevention, for a Diabetes Awareness Event on January 14, 2026. The event was held within the framework of the Health Promotion course for second-year medical students.

The event aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of diabetes prevention and management while enabling the practical application of health promotion principles. Dr. Jackie Kassouf Maalouf, Founder and President of DiaLEB, addressed key topics including healthy lifestyle adoption, risk factor modification, and early prevention strategies. The program also featured a live testimony by Mr. Pedro Darjani, who provided a valuable firsthand account of the daily challenges of living with Type 1 diabetes.

The event was further supported by the involvement of LeMSIC students who complemented the awareness activities through on site blood glucose and blood pressure screenings, vital signs assessments, nutrition counseling, educational games, and the dissemination of practical health tips.

By engaging future physicians in the scientific and human dimensions of diabetes care, the event highlighted the importance of preventive medicine, empathy, and patient-centered practice.
