The MedFireWise team came together for the first time in person in Athens on November 4th for the official project’s kick-off meeting hosted by the BEYOND Centre IAASARS/NOA. The Land and Natural Resources Program (LNR) at the Institute of the Environment (IOE) of the University of Balamand (UOB), with partners from 6 Mediterranean countries, took an important step forward in a shared vision of making the Mediterranean region more resilient to wildfires through Nature-based Solutions.

Co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, MedFireWise brings together seven expert partners from across the Mediterranean basin, promoting Nature-Based Solutions, such as prescribed burning and silvopasture, to prevent wildfires, strengthen ecological resilience, and support climate adaptation.

UOB is proud to be part of this important journey that aims to protect our landscapes, support sustainable land management, and safeguard the Mediterranean environment for future generations.
