UOB Hosts Webinar on ESG Practices with Industry Leaders from CCC

As part of its commitment to advancing sustainability and responsible engineering education, the University of Balamand (UOB) hosted a webinar on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices. The session was organized by the Career Services Center in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering through the Engineering Seminar Series.

The webinar featured senior leaders from Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC): Mr. Aref Bou Alwan, Vice President of Information Systems & Technology and Chief of Initiatives, Startups & Global Partnerships, and Mr. Bilal Haidar, Head of IT Section (MIS). Together, they shared practical insights on how ESG principles are reshaping global industries and driving organizations to integrate sustainability at the heart of their strategies.

Introducing the session, Mr. AbdulMunim Alameddine, Course Coordinator, highlighted the importance of embedding ESG concepts into the engineering curriculum to prepare future professionals for the challenges of a rapidly evolving world. The event was also attended by Prof. Joseph Assaad, Associate Dean for Research & Innovation at the Faculty of Engineering, representing Professor Rami Abboud, Vice President for Internationalization and Engagement and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, underscoring the faculty’s strong commitment to sustainability and innovation. The speakers drew from CCC’s extensive global experience, presenting real-world projects that demonstrate the company’s dedication to environmental responsibility, social impact, and ethical governance. Their examples illustrated how sustainable practices are not only a corporate obligation but also a driver of resilience, competitiveness, and long-term success.

For UOB students, this seminar served as an eye-opening opportunity to see how theory meets practice. By engaging directly with leading industry experts, students gained a clearer understanding of how engineers can contribute to building a more sustainable and equitable future.

This initiative reflects UOB’s broader vision of equipping its graduates with the knowledge and values to become sustainability leaders, capable of addressing the most pressing challenges of our time especially in the engineering profession.
