UOB Students Appointed as SDG Ambassadors for 2024–2025

University of Balamand (UOB) students Yara El Debs (Environmental Sciences – Koura Campus) and Reva Al Aridi (Biology Premed – Dekwaneh Campus) have been appointed as SDG Ambassadors for the academic year 2024–2025. The SDG Brain Lab is an accelerator program launched by the United Nations Global Compact Network Lebanon (UN GCNL). It aims to empower and support young Lebanese leaders between the ages of 18 and 24 in driving progress toward the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in the UN 2030 Agenda.

A total of 51 students from UOB participated in this impactful initiative, reflecting the university’s strong commitment to sustainable development and youth leadership. In total, 500 students from 13 Lebanese universities, including the University of Balamand, were selected to take part in the 7-month program, which is structured around two main hubs: the Training Hub and the Brain Hub.

After demonstrating strong commitment, leadership, and a passion for sustainability and positive change, UOB participants were recognized for their outstanding performance and selected as SDG Ambassadors for the 2024–2025 academic year. Their appointment was officially announced during the program’s closing ceremony.

As ambassadors, the students will undergo specialized training on the UN 2030 Agenda to become active voices for change. They will participate in various events and webinars, gaining the opportunity to raise awareness and advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals within their universities and local communities.

“It was a refreshing and inspiring experience to be part of such a motivated group,” said Yara El Debs. “I’m looking forward to what’s next.” Reva Al Aridi shared, “The program helped me connect global goals with real local needs. I'm honored to continue this journey as an ambassador.”
