Global Achievement for the University of Balamand Team at Formula Student 2025

The University of Balamand (UOB) is proud to announce the outstanding performance of its Balamand Racing Team (BRT) from the Faculty of Engineering at the Formula Student 2025 international competition. The team ranked 39th out of 100 universities from around the world in the Formula Student Class category.

BRT also secured 1st place among all teams from the Middle East and Arab countries, an impressive and unprecedented accomplishment that highlights the high level of skill and excellence of UOB students in both engineering and motorsports. The BRT team was the only Lebanese team participating in the competition, which emphasizes their advanced capabilities and marks a major step forward in regional engineering innovation.

The team received the Michael Royce Learn and Compete Award, one of the top honors given in the competition. This award recognizes teams that show excellence in learning, growth, and consistent effort throughout the event. The team successfully passed the technical and safety inspections, and their car was officially approved for on-track driving. Only 21 teams out of 100 qualified for the dynamic track events, many of which had more than ten years of racing experience.

In the static events, the team came in 22nd place for the Business Presentation Plan, 39th in Design, and 41st in Cost and Manufacturing Analysis. These results contributed to their overall 39th place ranking.

The BRT team includes around 25 students from the Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, and Computer Engineering programs at the University of Balamand. The team was led by students Hanna Lakkis and Ameer Abi Ezzeddine, under the supervision of Dr. Chawki Lahoud, Assistant Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department.

Commenting on this success, Professor Rami Abboud, Vice President for Internationalization and Engagement and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, said: “This achievement is a living proof of our students’ passion, determination, and ability to face challenges and compete at the highest level. To be among the top 40 teams in the world in our very first participation, and to carry Lebanon’s name onto global innovation platforms, is a source of pride for every member of the University of Balamand. This team has not only shown great talent but has also planted hope and ambition in the hearts of future generations of engineers.”
