UOB Computer Science Students Recognized for International Achievement (ICPC)

The University of Balamand (UOB) proudly celebrated the achievement of its computer science students, Amir Bou Ghanem, Mahmoud Seraj Alddin, and Wassim Al Haraki, during a special ceremony held on June 23, 2025, at the Souk El Gharb campus. The event was attended by Dr. Wadih Jureidini, President of the Syndicate of Computer Sciences in Lebanon; Dr. Faisal Abu Khzam, Director of LCPC in Lebanon; Prof. Hanna El Nakat, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences; Dr. Amine Bitar, Chairperson of the Department of Computer Science at UOB; Dr. Habbouba Aoun, Director of the Souk El Gharb Campus; Ms. Soha Hmaidan, Senior Executive Advisor for Advancement; Dr. Souheil Matar, Director of Public Relations Office at Souk El Gharb Campus; along with several faculty members and students.

The students successfully qualified for the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) World Finals, set to take place in Azerbaijan in August 2025. The team earned their spot after excelling at the Africa and Arab Collegiate Programming Championship (ACPC) held in Egypt in December 2024 where they earned the Bronze Medal. In recognition of this accomplishment, the Syndicate of Computer Sciences in Lebanon awarded the team the sum of 3.000$ as a contribution to support their participation in the ICPC world finals.

During the ceremony, Dean El Nakat delivered a heartfelt speech, stating: "You are a source of pride for your university, your families, and all of us who believe in your talent and dedication." He also thanked the Syndicate for their generous gesture, stating: "We are deeply grateful for your moral and material support, which reflects the academic values you uphold."

UOB congratulates the team on this remarkable achievement and wishes them continued success on the global stage.
