UOB Professors Take Part in UNESCO-AFP Fact-Checking Initiative

Dr. Dima Issa and Dr. Rabih Al Andary from the Department of Mass Media and Communication at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, proudly represented the University of Balamand (UOB) at a two-day training workshop on fact-checking, held on June 16 and 17, 2025, at the UNESCO building in Beirut. The event was organized by UNESCO in collaboration with Agence France-Presse (AFP), and brought together chairpersons and professors from Media and Communication departments across universities in Lebanon.

The training aimed to strengthen participants’ ability to identify and counter misinformation in today’s fast-paced digital landscape. Sessions included practical exercises and case studies on reverse image search, video verification, AI and deepfakes, disinformation tactics, archiving techniques, geolocation, and editorial standards.

By engaging in this initiative, Dr. Issa and Dr. Al Andary reaffirmed UOB’s commitment to promoting media literacy and upholding the values of truth, integrity, and responsibility in journalism and education.

The training concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, celebrating the participants' dedication to advancing fact-based communication in Lebanon.
