UOB-FOE Water Expo on the Move: Inspiring Young Minds at Lycée Alphonse de Lamartine

As part of its ongoing mission to raise environmental awareness among youth, the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) at the University of Balamand (UOB) brought its UOB-FOE Water Expo initiative to Lycée Alphonse de Lamartine school (Koura Campus) on Monday, May 19, engaging Grade 4 students in a dynamic and educational experience centered around water conservation and sustainability.

Led by Dr. Yasmine Jabali, Assistant Professor at the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, the interactive expo welcomed two groups totaling around 60 students. The event was structured into three segments: a theoretical introduction to water issues, presentations of innovative pilot projects from FOE Master’s students, and an overview of the 1 Million Action Postcards (1MAP) initiative, which focuses on global water management and sustainability practices.

This visit marked the 17th school in Lebanon to participate in this initiative, which has now reached over 3000 students locally and 67,000 students internationally. Joining Dr. Jabali was student Abdel Rahman El Khatib, an active member of the Eco Club at UOB, who contributed to the engagement with the young audience and promoted student-led environmental efforts.

Vice President for Internationalization and Engagement and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Professor Rami Abboud commended Dr. Jabali’s efforts and dedication to keeping this topic a priority especially that it aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6): Clean Water and Sanitation. He stated: “The UOB-FOE Water Expo series continues to play a key role in fostering a new generation of environmentally conscious individuals, showcasing FOE’s commitment to education, innovation, and sustainability across communities. If young students cannot come to us we go to them – education without boundaries is real education”.
