Engineering Students Gain Practical Skills at Rebar Detailing Workshop

On April 26, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering, in collaboration with the ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) and ACI (American Concrete Institute) Student Chapters organized a full-day workshop titled “Introduction to Rebar Detailing”. Held from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the hands-on session provided civil engineering students with practical and theoretical training in rebar detailing—an essential component in the design of reinforced concrete structures.

The workshop was conducted by Engineer Clotilde Moarbes, Head of the Beams Department at AABCO Group, a company specializing in reinforced concrete structures. Eng. Moarbes delivered an in-depth session guiding participants through key topics such as concrete properties, rebar placement techniques, relevant industry codes, and practical detailing exercises.

Highlighting the faculty’s commitment to excellence and professional development, three outstanding engineering students—Carla Melki, Dani Andari, and Martin Elias—were awarded paid internship opportunities at AABCO. Additionally, Dani Andari received a $100 prize for achieving the highest score on the workshop quiz.

Vice President for Internationalization and Engagement and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Professor Rami Abboud congratulated the winners and expressed his gratitude to Eng. Moarbes for her valuable contributions, as well as Dr. Wahib Arairo, Associate Professor, for his continued support. Prof. Abboud noted that initiatives like this reflect the faculty’s dedication to active hands-on learning and its mission to prepare students to lead and innovate in the engineering field.
