The Lebanon Green Building Council – UOB Student Chapter, in collaboration with the Issam Fares Faculty of Technology, successfully organized the Green Bridge Competition at the University of Balamand’s Souk El Gharb Campus. The event brought together aspiring high school students to showcase their technical, research, and creative skills through an eco-inspired challenge.

The competition began with opening remarks from Dr. Habbouba Aoun, Campus Director of the UOB Souk El Gharb Campus, and Dr. Wahib Arairo, Chair of the Department of Civil Construction Technology. Both speakers highlighted the importance of sustainable living, emphasizing how real-life design challenges, like this green bridge competition, bring together students, academia, and industry to drive practical solutions for a more sustainable future.

The competition featured two main segments: a poster and research design presentation, and a bridge-building challenge. Participants were tasked with designing and constructing bridges that demonstrated both structural efficiency and environmental responsibility.

The highlight of the day was the bridge endurance test, during which each team’s structure was evaluated for strength, design, and weight capacity. After a competitive round of testing, the UCA School (Universal College of Aley) team, whose bridge stood out for its structure and thoughtful design, was declared the winner.

More than just a friendly competition, the Green Bridge event provided prospective students with an immersive campus experience, fostering teamwork, innovation, and a hands-on approach to sustainable construction.
