Annual Awards Ceremony at UOB

The University of Balamand (UOB) proudly hosted its Annual Awards Ceremony on the 15th of May 2025 at UOB Koura Campus, celebrating the vibrant spirit of student life across all its campuses. The event recognized the dedication of athletes, student clubs, and active individuals who have made a lasting impact on campus life during the academic year. Over 500 students gathered alongside UOB President Dr. Elias Warrak, vice presidents, deans, directors, faculty members, and staff to honor the achievements of our students.

The ceremony began with a moment of silence in memory of student Jack Abou Jawdeh, a star member of the UOB Razorbacks rugby team and last year’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). Jack’s presence and passion left a lasting mark on the UOB community, and his absence was deeply felt.

Throughout the evening, 48 awards were presented to students and clubs who actively contributed to campus life through various events and initiatives. In addition, 33 student athletes were recognized for their excellence and commitment in sports throughout the year.

Among the evening’s most anticipated moments was the announcement of the top award winners. The President's Award for Sustainability was granted to the Eco Club, honoring their ongoing efforts to promote environmental awareness and action. The President's Award for Student Engagement went to the Premed Club in recognition of their dedication to service, learning, and outreach. Serena Ridani received the Exemplary Student Experience Award for her outstanding leadership and inspiring involvement across multiple areas of student life. The Event of the Year was awarded to the Business Expo organized by the Business and Commerce Club for its scale, professionalism, and impact. Bachir Kabbara, president of the IEEE Club, was named Club President of the Year for his exceptional commitment and innovation. Finally, the Club of the Year honor was awarded to the Music Club - Dekwaneh Campus, in celebration of their creativity, community building, and cultural contributions.

The Male Athlete of the Year award was presented to Antonios Makary, recognizing his remarkable performance, dedication, and sportsmanship throughout the season. The Female Athlete of the Year award went to Amar Hafez, in appreciation of her outstanding achievements, team spirit, and commitment to excellence in university athletics. Mr. Ghaleb Halimi, Senior Director of Athletics, Wellness, and Recreation, addressed the athletes with heartfelt appreciation: “Tonight is about celebrating all of you. Whether you won medals or not, whether your team lifted a trophy or just missed out, each and every one of you showed great effort, discipline, and spirit. That is what matters. To the finalists, congratulations! You’ve set an admirable benchmark for future generations of UOB athletes.”

Mr. Michael Salem, Director of Student Affairs, spoke proudly of the growing energy and engagement across all campuses: “Here’s a number worth celebrating: Last year, across all UOB campuses, we had 220 student-led events. This spring semester alone, we hit 200. This kind of engagement is what defines UOB. Here, student life isn’t just ‘extra-curricular.’ It’s at the core of what we do. And our approach is simple: we empower students to lead. We build structures that allow creativity to grow. And we never stop looking for more participation, more collaboration, and more impact.”

Dr. Warrak began his address to the students by saying: “This ceremony stands as a tribute to your dedication, to your teamwork, and to the energy that keeps life flowing into our university. You are the soul of Balamand and the reason of its existence and survival despite all atrocities.” He added: “The university is not identified by classrooms alone, it is where identity is forged, voices are heard and values come to life. This year through your clubs and athletic experience you have brought those values into full expression.”

The Annual Awards Ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the spirit, talent, and unity that make the University of Balamand a special place to grow, lead, and remember.
