Programs

The Faculty of Health Sciences offers a variety of academic programs in the Health Sciences. Curricula are community-oriented and multidisciplinary, to equip graduates with the professional literacy, competencies, teamwork, and skills needed to meet challenges in the dynamic work environment of today's health sector.

Undergraduate degree programs lead to a Bachelor of Science degree within a minimum of a three-year framework. Graduate degree programs lead to a Master of Science degree or a Master of Public Health degree.

MS in Clinical Laboratory Sciences

The Faculty of Health Sciences offers a two-year graduate program leading to a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences. The Program provides an advanced level of education and training for candidates with a background in medical laboratory sciences, as well as basic science or biomedical sciences.

The Program offers two tracks for specialization: Infectious Disease and Immunology, Diagnostic Molecular Biology.

GRADUATE PROGRAM MISSION
The mission of the program is educating professional scientists to contribute in research in the areas of Infectious Disease, immunology and molecular biology at both national and international levels.

GRADUATE PROGRAM LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The MS in Clinical Laboratory Sciences will meet the following objectives to accomplish its mission:
  1. Provide students with theoretical and practical skills in molecular biology, clinical Infectious Disease and immunology using classical techniques and modern technology.
  2. Formulate and implement a research scheme designed to test an original hypothesis related to a research project.
  3. Develop student’s skills for conducting in-depth research, gathering data, writing extensive literature reviews, and making accurate conclusions.
  4. Analyze and interpret research data, present and debate relevance of findings to the general field of interest.
  5. Equip students with necessary skills for a successful career in hospitals, pharmaceutical industries, and academia.

GRADUATE PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon graduation, graduates will be able to:
  1. Perform accurate laboratory testing and experiments in Infectious Disease, immunology and molecular biology.
  2. Write a research proposal and apply for funding.
  3. Formulate and test hypotheses using appropriate experimental design and statistical analysis of data.
  4. Launch a research project that addresses an identified gap in the literature in the area of clinical laboratory sciences.
  5. Analyse experimental results using appropriate controls and determine their strength and validity.
  6. Communicate clearly and effectively in their area of expertise.
  7. Serve as a successful senior technologist in clinical laboratories.
  8. Be a competitive candidate for a job in pharmaceutical industries, or for doctoral studies.
