Climate Diplomacy
& Sustainable Peace (CDSP) Hub
A Euro-Mediterranean Platform for Climate Resilience, Water Diplomacy,
WEFE Nexus, Policy and Governance and Sustainable Peace

About

The Climate Diplomacy & Sustainable Peace (CDSP) Hub at the University of Balamand serves as a strategic institutional platform addressing the interconnected challenges of climate change, water insecurity, energy transition, food system instability, and geopolitical fragility across the Eastern Mediterranean and the MENA region.

Designed as a governance platform rather than a conventional research center, the Hub integrates climate science, diplomacy, policy development, and executive education within a unified institutional architecture. Its work supports evidence-based governance, regional cooperation, and sustainable peace by linking scientific knowledge with policy action and diplomatic engagement.

Through international partnerships and structured coordination mechanisms, the Hub strengthens institutional credibility, promotes policy dialogue, and advances sustainable development initiatives across the region.

Governance
The Climate Diplomacy & Sustainable Peace Hub operates within a structured governance framework designed to ensure institutional coordination, transparency, and alignment with international standards. Presidential oversight provides strategic direction and institutional legitimacy, ensuring that activities remain aligned with the University of Balamand’s mission and international engagement priorities.

A dedicated coordination structure manages:
  • - Institutional partnerships and project coordination
  • - Compliance with governance and funding protocols
  • - Monitoring of research and training initiatives
  • - Institutional communication and representation

An advisory structure provides strategic guidance and broad stakeholder participation, supporting scientific credibility, policy relevance, and international cooperation.

This governance approach ensures coherence across academic initiatives while preserving academic freedom and encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration.

Partnerships
The CDSP Hub operates through a network of international institutional partnerships that strengthen research collaboration, policy dialogue, and executive training initiatives.

Key partnerships support:
  • - Climate diplomacy and sustainable peace initiatives
  • - Hydrodiplomacy and water security cooperation
  • - WEFE Nexus governance frameworks
  • - Executive training and capacity-building programs
  • - Intercultural dialogue and peacebuilding efforts

These collaborations enhance the University of Balamand’s role as a regional bridge between scientific research, policy development, and diplomatic engagement.

The Hub continues to expand partnerships with international organizations, academic institutions, policy platforms, and development agencies committed to climate resilience and sustainable development.
